IMG_7959Recently i’ve discovered that I have an obsession with stationary stores. My two favorites in LA are Urbanic on Abbot Kinney in Venice and Sugar Paper in Brentwood. I love the ambiance, the one-of-a-kind cards and prints and the artistic inspiration it gives me every time I walk inside. I’m also ridiculously organized so any shop that promotes organization with an aesthetic appeal will always get my attention.

However, the pretty details aren’t what draw me most to stores like Urbanic or Sugar Paper. Its the subliminal message they’re sending to be “old fashioned” and write. I have and always will be an advocate for handwritten cards and letters. There’s just something so intimate about a personal message between one another that (in my opinion) sure beats an email any day.

My newfound love of handwritten notes within beautiful cards all started with my best friend. You see, we have a sort-of long distance relationship (even though we’re only an hour apart). However with the crazy lives we both lead, we rarely get to see each other. Its been in these past few months that we’ve found a way of encouraging one another through sending cards back and forth. Some of them encompass our relationship in a nutshell, some of them are just pretty to look at, and some of them are just plain random. But to me, its not the physical card but rather the personal note written inside. Taking time to make someone feel special even for those few moments are what its all about.

Be old fashioned and make someone’s day. Its the little things, remember?
